3 standout players at Training Camp (8/15)

Giants.com names three players who made a key impact at Tuesday's practice:

WR JEROME LANE

Send it in, Jerome! Lane, whose father, Jerome Sr., was a first-round NBA draft pick in 1988 and famously shattered a backboard while playing for the University of Pittsburgh, had himself a big day. The undrafted rookie out of Akron started off with an early touchdown on a Josh Johnson pass from the green zone and later made a great catch down the left sideline from Geno Smith.

Lane and Johnson hooked up a handful of other times, including another touchdowns late in practice. Lane, who was signed in early June, had been building up to this with some solid outings, and today was a breakthrough. In the preseason opener, he was second on the team with 27 yards on two catches, with a long of 19 yards. He was targeted five times. QB ELI MANNING

Manning threw touchdowns to wide receiver Brandon Marshall and rookie tight end Evan Engram today, but we've seen all that before. The interesting part of the day, though, was Marshall shedding a little light on what Manning is like at the office and how it impacts what everyone sees once they get on the field, like today.

"Literally 10 seconds ago, Eli walked in the locker room and took me through five minutes of just throwing things at me, seeing where I was," Marshall said shortly after practice ended. "So, he knows where I'm at and where I'm not at. He's challenging me every second he gets so we'll be where we need to be come Week 1."

Marshall added: "It's just real spontaneous. I mean, it's interesting. We may be talking about what type of cereal we're going to have, and he just switches the subject to some type of football. ... Literally we just got out of the shower, we had towels on, and he was pretty much half-dressed, and he started giving me signals."

TE EVAN ENGRAM

The rookie first-round pick is becoming a mainstay on this list. Today, Engram and Manning, one Ole Miss alum to another, connected for a green-zone touchdown. Manning fired a pass in the back of the end zone, where Engram shuffled his feet to stay in bounds. A little later, Engram caught another short touchdown, this time from Geno Smith. His production near the goal line has to be promising for the Giants, who finished 19th in the league with a 53.5 touchdown percentage inside the 20.
